About Toto

The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from the Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name throughout the globe.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are faced with financial difficulties. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
